Pastor Wayne Jones and his wife, Sarah Jones, are the founders of Set Free To Be Ministries in Laurens S.C... Set Free To Be is a non-profit 501(c) 3 organization. We are a non-denominational ministry. We believe we are here to fulfill the great commission, GO ye and make disciples. A man/woman must be born again in Jesus but he also must be disciple.
In an effort to take back our community one of the tools we use is a small group curriculum by Living Free that assists individuals learning to face life's struggles and move toward freedom and wholeness in Christ Jesus.
The four community outreach programs of Set Free To Be Ministries include –
L.I.F.E. (Living It Free Everyday) Community, LCDC Jail Ministry, R.C. (Reality Check) Ministry and Set Free Recovery House.
There are three main areas that “Life Controlling” issues can trap us:
Substance use: alcohol, cocaine, Meth, prescription drugs etc.
Behaviors: gambling, pornography, anger, depression, Internet etc.
Relationship issues: enabling, codependency, and abusive relationships etc.
Seminars are conducted to help tackle those three areas at the ministry office on 239 West Laurens Street and various other places as scheduled.
Jones is a certified rep for Living Free in Chattanooga, TN and a certified coordinator to conduct seminars. He also had several years of training under Word of Life Ministry in Fort Meyer, FL. and New Life Dream Center, which is an 18-month residential facility for men and women.
Major Joe Tyson of the Johnson Detention Center, said the ministry has already helped the jail make remarkable progress in not having the same men and women released from custody wind up back in custody.
Joe Gresham stressed, “Set Free To Be Ministries is not just a prison ministry, but a community outreach ministry that also has a prison ministry.”
“When Pastor Jones told me he wanted to start a prison ministry in Laurens County, I was excited and ready to volunteer in my hometown, because prison ministry is my passion.” Gresham is also the owner of Century 21 – The Gresham Company in Laurens.
Gresham went on to say that in the nearly two years that he has been working with Pastor Jones, he has never seen one man so dedicated and committed to ministry as Jones. “He is like a firecracker lit on both ends,” Gresham said.
Reality Check is a youth preventive ministry to help kids and at-risk teens realize that their choices have consequences. This ministry includes a power point presentation and a scheduled tour of DJJ to help the youth realize that prison is not a joke or a place they would want to go. They try to help youth understand that everything that looks fun or is fun at the moment can cost a lot of pain and loss of freedom.
Set Free To Be Ministries also assists with Re-Entry, which is a follow-up program to serve those who have completed long term recovery programs, providing continued positive peer choice, accountability, boundaries and consistency.
Jones’ vision to expand the ministry to help men and women make that transition is a 30-bed transition home. Jones said, “We plan to build a 30-bed facility with a kitchen, class rooms and a chapel that would accommodate the residents and family members of those in transition.”
